General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President of the P. R. China and President of the Central Army Committee of China, Mr. Hu Jin Tao cares the security, transport and tourism works during the National Holiday very much. In the morning of October 7, he paid a special visit to the Public Security Bureau Tian’anmen Branch, Beijing Metro Line 4 and Summer Palace, expressed gratitude to the policemen on duty and staff working on the holidays.
“Make full use of the public transport systems”
During the National Holiday, passenger flow of the metro system increased dramatically. The daily patronage of BJL4 which was opened at the eve of the holiday was up to 600 thousand, citizens enjoy the great conveniences.
Hu Jin Tao came to Xidan station of BJL4, shook hands with staff on duty, bought an electronic ticket personally, passed the AFC gate and took a ride in a BJL4 train. He asked questions about the passenger flow after the opening of the line, careful studied the map of the line and the plan of the metro system in Beijing.
Responsible people reported to him that there are 9 metro lines in operation now. The total mileage is 228 km. It will be extended to 561 km in the year 2015 and the daily patronage will be over 10 million.
Hu Jin Tao said transport was an important issue closely related to the living of the citizens, it was also a tough issue facing all the metropolis over the world. As a large metropolis, Beijing had to make full use of public transport system to solve the transport problem. By providing fast, safe, convenient and comfortable public transport means, citizens would be attracted to use public transport. Hu Jin Tao stressed that we should adopt various measures to solve the congestion problems in Beijing.
BJL4 is a cooperation project between MTR HK and relevant enterprises in Beijing. Hu Jin Tao spoke to the responsible person from MTR that the management level of MTR was of first rate, they were expected to bring here the advance management ideas and expand the cooperation arena between Hong Kong and mainland China further.
On the train, Hu Jin Tao inspected the people-centered facilities in the saloon, saw the operator in the driving cab, acknowledged the contribution metro operators made to the improvement of transport in the capital city.
“Try hard to provide excellent services to the tourists”
After 30-minutes ride, the train stopped at Xiyuan station. Hu Jin Tao walked out of the station to the Summer Palace to inspect the tourism services in the spot.
Secretary of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Mr. Liu Qi and other officials accompanied him in the inspection.
