Two new lines (sections) of BJMTR are under active preparation

By the end of 2023, the north section of Line 17 is scheduled to open, and at the same time, Line 16 will achieve through-train service. The route length of lines operated by BJMTR will exceed 190 kilometers. Currently, the two new lines (sections) are under active and orderly preparation. After the opening of these new lines (sections), a safer, more convenient, and passenger-friendly travel service will be provided, thus further enhancing the travel experience for passengers.

After the opening of the south section of Line 17 in 2021, the opening of the north section of Line 17 which is due by the end of the year is under active and orderly preparation. The north section of Line 17 has a total length of approximately 25 kilometers with 10 stations. From north to south, the stations are Future Science City North, Future Science City, Tiantongyuandong, Qingheying, Hongjunying, Wangjing Xi (W) (temporarily delayed opening), Taiyanggong, Xibahe, Zuojiazhuang, and Workers' Stadium station. Among them, Taiyanggong is an interchange station which can transferred between Line 17 and Line 10. The opening of the north section of Line 17 will effectively enhance the rail transit service capacity in the Future Science City area and Huitian region, bringing convenience to residents in the east part of Beijing. It is estimated that the average daily patronage after the opening will reach around 158,000.

After the previous opening of the north, middle, and south sections of Line 16, the remaining two stations, Hongtaizhuang station and Wanpingcheng station, will also open at the end of the year. At that time, Line 16 will achieve through-train service. Additionally, Suzhou Jie station on Line 16 will also open simultaneously, serving as an interchange station between Line 16 and Line 10.

As a north-south backbone line in Beijing's rail transit network, Line 16 starts from Bei’anhe in the north and extends to Wanpingcheng in the south. It spans approximately 50 kilometers, and the daily patronage is expected to reach around 400,000 after Line 16 achieves through-train service. The travel time from Bei’anhe station to Wanpingcheng station needs only 83 minutes. The integrated operation of Line 16 will better connect important urban functional areas such as the west area of Zhongguancun, Sanlihe administrative center, Fengtai Railway Station, and Fengtai Science Park, promoting the integration and development of the north and south urban areas.
