On November 9th, the M-Arts themed event, "Beautiful Journey, Every Trip – BJMTR Primary and Secondary School Public Art Exhibition," officially launched at the National Library Station on Line 16 and the Taiyanggong Station on Line 17 of BJMTR. Leaders from the Beijing Municipal Society of Education's Social Classroom Education Professional Committee, BJMTR, and other relevant organizations, along with award-winning students and their teachers, attended the event.
Launched in May of this year, the event received enthusiastic participation from primary and secondary school students across seven districts of Beijing. From a total of 264 submissions from 51 schools, 51 outstanding works were selected by a panel of expert judges for exhibition at metro stations. This BJMTR primary and secondary school public art exhibition aims to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and nurture their artistic aspirations, while simultaneously creating a more enriching and culturally vibrant commuting experience for passengers.
The event began with a metro study tour for over 30 primary and secondary school student representatives from 16 schools. Led by BJMTR staff, the students gained a first-hand understanding of daily metro operations through up-close visits to metro stations and simulated experiences of various staff roles.
Following the tour, leaders from the Social Classroom program and BJMTR presented certificates to participating students, teachers, schools, and representatives from district Social Classroom offices. They engaged in in-depth discussions with students and teachers, listening to their imaginative ideas about the future of the metro and their unique perspectives on metro art. Students expressed that the event not only provided an opportunity to showcase their talents but also gave them a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the metro as a daily mode of transportation.
Wang Yuming, Deputy General Manager of BJMTR, stated, "This year marks the 15th anniversary of the opening of BJMTR's first line. For many years, we have actively fulfilled our corporate social responsibility and continuously cultivated a vibrant artistic and cultural atmosphere within the metro system. Previously, we launched public initiatives such as the M-Library and M-Gallery, bringing the enjoyment of urban culture and artistic enrichment to the public. This exhibition, featuring student artwork displayed at metro stations, provides a platform for students to showcase their talents. By soliciting artwork on themes such as safe and green commuting and visions for future rail transit, we encourage primary and secondary school students to focus on safety and environmentally friendly travel in their daily lives. In the future, BJMTR will continue to conduct various initiatives, leveraging the public cultural platform function of metro station spaces to create a more culturally and artistically rich metro environment, offering passengers a more enriching and enjoyable commuting experience."
Gao Fuyuan, Secretary-General of the Social Classroom Education Professional Committee of the Beijing Municipal Educational Society, stated that they will actively promote deeper collaboration between Social Classroom resource units and primary and secondary schools. By organizing themed activities, they aim to guide students to participate in social practice activities at Social Classroom resource units on their days off, integrating education and entertainment. This will help to make social education more effective, leveraging the advantages of collaborative education from all sectors of society, and fostering improved practical innovation, responsibility, and capability in young people.
