To further enhance passenger travel experience, starting from May 31, 2023, new train diagrams is applied on BJMTR Line 14 to increase the capacity of Line 14 on weekdays and weekends by extending the morning peak operating hours, increasing the number of trains, shortening the travel headways, and extending operation hours, so as to make passenger travel more efficient and convenient.
According to research, during morning peak hours on weekdays, the peak passenger flow of the eastern section of Line 14 continued to be prolonged, and the commuting time of passengers mainly concentrates between 7:30-10:00. To address this issue, the operating hours of the upbound section of Line 14 from Lize Shangwuqu station to Shan’gezhuang station have been extended from the original 7:30-9:30 to 7:30-10:00.This extension of the morning peak hour operation time has effectively relieved the passenger flow pressure during the morning peak hours of the Chaoyang section of Line 14, especially the area between Jintai Lu Station and Chaoyang Park Station, ensuring passengers' smooth travel.
Passengers commuting on the western section of Line 14 mainly concentrate between 6:30-7:30. To better meet the needs of passengers during the morning peak hours, BJMTR has added eight trains in both directions from Dawayao station to Lize Shangwuqu station during 6:30-7:30, and gradually reduced the minimum headway from 6 minutes to 3 minutes. This adjustment has effectively improved the capacity and frequency of Line 14 during the morning peak hours, providing passengers with more convenient and comfortable travel options.
To meet the travel needs of passengers in the evening, starting from May 31, 2023, BJMTR Line 14 will add a short-turn routing in diagram from Jiulongshan station to Shan’gezhuang station on Line 14 after 21:30 on weekdays and weekends. The combined long-turn and short-turn routing will provide more convenience for passengers.
From 21:30 to 23:04 on weekdays, Line 14 will add 7 additional trains on short-turn routing and operate in a 1:1 mode between long-turn routing (Zhangguozhuang station to Shan’gezhuang station) and short-turn routing (Jiulongshan station to Shan’gezhuang station). The capacity will be precisely adjusted to improve the minimum headway from 8 minutes to 3 minutes and 30 seconds in the Chaoyang section of Line 14, providing more convenience for passengers.
In addition, during the period from 21:30 to 23:12 on weekends, Line 14 will add two more short-turn routing trains to meet the travel needs of passengers at night.
It is reported that by adding more trains and optimizing train organization, the capacity of the key business district section in the Chaoyang area of Line 14 during weekday evenings can be increased by 41%, which can transport more than 13,000 passengers per direction. The capacity during weekend evenings can be increased by 13%, which can transport more than 3,700 passengers per direction. This improvement provides more convenient travel options for passengers during the evening.
With the arrival of summer, the demand for evening travel by passengers is increasing. Beijing-Kowloon Metro is closely monitoring passenger flows and has decided to extend the last train departure time for Line 14 in both directions to facilitate passenger travel. Specifically, the last train departure time for upbound trains from Zhangguozhuang station to Shan’gezhuang station, and downbound trains from Shan’gezhuang station to Zhangguozhuang will be extended by 12 minutes, and the extension of operating hours on weekdays and weekends makes metro travel more flexible and convenient.
