On December 15th, 2024, BJMTR, in collaboration with the Hong Kong (Regional) Chamber of Commerce, jointly hosted a special BJMTR STEAM interdisciplinary education event. The event invited around 50 young participants from both Beijing and Hong Kong to explore the metro. Through studying the metro STEAM courses, building metro engineering simulation models, and conducting field trips to metro depots, the students embarked on an educational journey to explore rail transit science. Frank Liu, General Manager of BJMTR, and Li Xianzhao, Vice President of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce jointly attended the event.
Since its launch in July this year, the BJMTR STEAM interdisciplinary education program has gradually been introduced to several primary schools in Beijing. As one of the executive committee members of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, BJMTR has fully leveraged its strengths in the rail transit industry to provide young people from both Beijing and Hong Kong with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the rail transit sector, ignite their interest in and curiosity about rail transit, foster their engineering thinking, and enhance their practical skills. At the same time, the program also serves as a platform for exchange between young people from both regions, promoting cultural and knowledge interaction and sharing.
Frank Liu, General Manager of BJMTR, stated that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the opening of the first line of BJMTR and the 45th anniversary of MTR's operations. Over the years, benefiting from Beijing's favorable business environment, cooperation between the two regions in the rail transit sector has deepened continuously. During this period, BJMTR has leveraged MTR's experience and adapted it to the local context in Beijing, consistently providing safe and high-quality travel services to citizens, while injecting unique BJMTR’s value into the industry’s development. This time, BJMTR, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, is hosting the STEAM event. Through interdisciplinary education, it offers young people from both regions an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the rail transit industry, while also providing them with a platform for communication and exchange. Looking ahead, as Beijing continues to enhance its opening-up efforts, cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong in fields such as transportation, technology, and education is expected to further strengthen. BJMTR will continue to invest resources to make a greater contribution to the collaboration between the two regions and provide more opportunities for youth exchange.
